Ferdowsi Zurkhaneh was crowded again. It is a practice of the Zurkhaneh sports that all people sit together. And this time, officials, athletes, participants and spectators were all sitting together and observed with wonder and admiration; an athlete with 2 legs amputated, another with war spinal cord injury were sitting in wheelchair, an athlete having one leg shorter than the other, they all were practicing Meel Giri and Kabaddeh. But, "effort" is not a proper word for what Parazurkahneh athletes displayed. More than meaning an attempt, their "effort" expressed their "hope to live"; a message of hope spreading throughout their sporting activity.

The 1st Asian Para Zurkhaneh Championships Begin
The Asian Para Zurkhaneh competitions were held in International Ferdowsi Zurkhaneh in Tajikistan in the fields of Kabaddeh and Meel Giri at the two sitting and standing classes.
Coincided with the 1st Asian Junior Zurkhaneh Sports Championships, the 1st Asian Para Zurkhaneh Championship was held on Dec. 17th, 2011 in Hakim Ferdowsi Zurkhaneh placed in Dushanbe, capital city of Tajikistan; attended by 9 athletes from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Tajikistan, India and Pakistan.
Wounded veterans and disabled athletes competed in the standing classes of "above-knee leg amputation" and "below knee amputation ", and in the sitting classes of "wheelchair" and "amputation ".
Ali Asqhar Hadizadeh, the chief of IZSF's Para Zurkhaneh Committee reported the news and hopefully said: "Zurkhaneh sports can be practised as available sporting practices by all veterans and disabled athletes".
"The Para Zurkhaneh competitions including Meel and Kabbadeh will be officially began in 2012, and Charkh is to be added by the next year", he emphasized.
The chief of IZSF's Para Zurkhaneh Committee stated: "I see a bright future for Para Zurkhaneh, and I now have to say that the championships will be held in three continents of Asia, Africa and Europe. However, our primary goal is to introduce the Zurkhaneh sports to many disabled athletes".
Referring to the negotiations made with the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS), he said: "We hope that the Para Zurkhaneh sports can find its way through wheelchair competitions and the Paralympic Games".
At the end, Hadizadeh appreciated the constructive interactions of the Disabled Veterans Sports Federation and the National Paralympic Committee with the International Zurkhaneh Sports Federation.
Results of the 1st Asian Para Zurkhaneh Sports Championships
Iranian veterans and disabled athletes won two gold medals in Meel Giri field at the sitting and standing classes. Seyyed Shahabuddin Bassam Tabar gained a gold medal in the standing class of Meel Giri with 755 points; Vinvad Takour from India won the silver medal with 362 points; and Asadullah from Pakistan received a bronze with 294 points.
In the standing class, Arsalan Amini from Iran won the gold medal with 755 points, Ali Obaid from Pakistan gained the silver medal with 312 points, and Saieed Murad Nezamove from Tajikistanian "A" team reached the bronze medal with 146 points.
Arsalan Amini in Kabbadeh received the gold medal, and Shahabuddin Bassam Tabar won the silver medal in the sitting class.
In sum, the Iranian Para Zurkhaneh sports team won 3 gold and 1 silver medals and 39 points at the 1st International Parazukhaneh Championships. Pakistan ranked the second with 33 points; and Tajikistan and India gained the third and fourth levels with 31 and 19 points respectively.
Last year (Oct., 2010), at the 2nd Zurkhaneh Sports World Cup held in Turkey, the Iranian veterans and disabled athletes displayed their team and personal skills in different classes and were greatly welcomed.
